Did you know that November is National Entrepreneurship Month? I’ve always had a heart for entrepreneurship. I even have a degree in it. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to run my own business. I know you’re thinking “Well, that’s nice, but what does that have to do with traveling?” Ooo…great question! Allow me to explain. So, last month I quit my nice little corporate job to run Happy Tracks Travel full-time. I didn’t just quit my job. I quit the steady income, the health benefits, the daily interaction with others, and the comfy sense of security that goes with it. I didn’t do this so I could celebrate this month. I did this for the freedom that running my own business provides and, as I state time and time again when it comes to travel and life, I did it for love of the journey. I will admit that I didn’t just jump foolheartedly. I planned this leap fairly extensively. Let’s back up to a couple of years ago when I realized I wanted to do something more fulfilling with my time and energy. (For more on that story and how I came up with the name Happy Tracks, click here.) I started spending my nights and weekends and lunch breaks learning about the travel industry. Then, late last year, I formed Happy Tracks Travel, LLC as a travel agency. Those same late nights and weekends began filling up with helping strangers book trips (cruises, tours, Amtrak train trips, etc.). As I began earning a little income from my new side hustle, I also began saving every penny I could so that I could cut the corporate cord and make the full-time commitment. During this time, I also used all my vacation days for travel and blogging/writing conferences. Whether I was learning about boutique river cruises, exotic expeditions, or how to use SEO to build my blog following, I invested my time and energy in learning more and looking ahead. Today, as I celebrate this entrepreneurial leap, I continue to do the same- only I do so without the corporate comforts and on my own terms, and I absolutely love it. I love giving my everything to my clients, my readers, and my business. I love visiting new destinations and documenting my time there while encouraging others to do the same. While exhausting and sometimes a bit overwhelming, there’s nothing quite like it. I have big goals for this little business. (You can read more about those here.) If so inclined, you can help me hit those goals by following my journey and sharing this blog with your friends. As always, I am thrilled you’re here, and I’m so very grateful for your support as I venture down this new path. If I can help you on your own journey, via land, sea, or even entrepreneurial, please let me know. I look forward to celebrating your next steps with you! *This blog post may contain affiliate links, including Amazon affiliate links.
